How to clean the washing machine

Regular cleaning of the washing machine helps not only to keep it at its best, but also to work effectively. The fact is that washing machines tend to accumulate:

  • Fungus and mold in the rubber seal and, accordingly, the appearance of unpleasant odors;
  • Scum on TENe;
  • The remains of powder, a conditioner and other additives in the car;
  • Dirt and small things in the drain pump filter;
  • Rust and sand in the filler hose filter.

Therefore, over time, you may notice that your clothes (especially light ones) after washing stopped shining as clean as they were before. Yes, and external pollution, which quickly cover the door, tabletop and protruding parts of the machine spoil the look of the room.

Step-by-step instruction

Well, let's start? To make the instruction clear, we decided to try out the theory in practice and cleaned the Bosch washing machine. Looking ahead, we present you a photo of the result.

Washing machine before and after cleaning

  • Compartment tray after cleaning

Step 1. Cleaning the drum and heating elements of the washing machine from scale

At the first stage, we need to clean the car from the inside, namely, to remove mineral deposits on the heating elements and the drum. How to clean the washing machine from scale? The secret of all methods is simple and uniform:

Since scale is composed of salts of magnesium and calcium, it is necessary to act on it with organic or inorganic acids. What acids are in every home and are worth pennies? That's right, ordinary vinegar or citric acid.

Method 1. How to clean the washing machine with vinegar and soda

You will need:

  • 2 cups alcohol white vinegar (preferably) or regular table vinegar 9%;
  • 1/4 cup baking soda;
  • 1/4 cup water;
  • Sponge with a hard side.

To get a 9% bite, we diluted 70% essence of acetic acid with water in 7: 1 proportions

What should be done:

Mix soda and water in a small bowl, add the soda mixture to the tray to receive your car detergent, and pour vinegar into the drum. Start the machine at idle at maximum temperature and for the longest time.

  • Washing mode at maximum temperature

Method 2. How to clean the washing machine with citric acid

Cleaning the washing machine with citric acid is even easier.

You will need:

  • 1-6 packs of citric acid. How much it is to pour citric acid depends on the volume of the washing machine and the degree of contamination.

What should be done:

Add citric acid powder to the detergent compartment. Start the machine in maximum temperature mode and running time.

How much to pour citric acid - 1, 2 or 6 packs at once, depends on the volume of the washing machine and the degree of its pollution

Step 2. Sistema cuff (sealing gum)

Hooray! The machine has finished self-cleaning washing and we can start washing the sealing gum. In this dark and humid place, dirt and mold likes to accumulate, so it must be carefully cleaned. This can be done with the help of any cleaning agent, for example, Pemolyuks or soda. If you see too much mold, which also has a strong unpleasant smell, then take a more powerful tool, for example, Domestos, Duckling, Comet (in the photo) or Whiteness. But keep in mind that the use of chlorine-containing products is too often undesirable, otherwise it threatens to deform the rubber.

What should be done:

Apply a little selected product to a damp cloth or sponge, gently pull the rubber towards you and wipe the metal part of the case.

Also do not forget to clean the rubber cuff itself in the same way.

The main part of the pollution accumulates in the lower part of the hatch, but it is worth cleaning its entire circumference.

Be careful not to pull the rubber too hard to avoid damage. Finally, wipe the entire cuff clean with a damp cloth.

Step 3. Clean the tray (container / tray / dispenser)

Find your owner's manual for your machine at home or on the Internet for instructions on how to pull out a tray for washing powder. Most often you can do it like this:

  • Pull out the tray until it stops. If you see that a blue / blue part is embedded in its middle compartment (in modern Bosch, Samsung, Eyelid, etc.), then you need to press it and pull it hard, while supporting the container itself.

How to pull out a tray for washing powder

  • If there is no blue / blue detail in the tray of your typewriter (often the trays in the Indesit machines are arranged), then you just need to pull the tray towards you and downwards, then slowly moving it left and right to pull it out completely.

As soon as you get the tray, most likely, you will see the following picture - the powder remains in its compartment. Get rid of these deposits with any cleaning agent and wipe the compartment clean. Keep in mind that this should be done carefully so as not to damage the rubber nipple.

  • Compartment tray to clean

It was not easy to clean the powder receptacle compartment, as there were a lot of hard-to-reach places, small protruding parts and recesses covered with rust. We deliberately did not bring the result to the ideal, it’s too laborious work. But you can do more cunningly: generously sprinkle all the walls of the compartment with a spray dispenser, leave the coating soaked for a couple of hours, and only then proceed to manual cleaning.

Next, proceed to cleaning the tray itself, which is usually covered with rusty patina, the remnants of powder and other cleaning additives. For this you can use:

  • A mixture of vinegar and soda;
  • Pemolux and other household chemicals;
  • A mixture of hot water, vinegar and soda.

Cover the container with the chosen agent and leave / soak it for 30 minutes, or better for a couple of hours.

Tray soak

Next, start cleaning it with a sponge and toothbrush (it is especially needed for washing hard-to-reach places). Finally, remove the remaining residue, wipe the tray dry and reinsert it (most often you just need to insert it into the compartment and close it).

  • If you have a dishwasher, then you can wash the tray in it.The rust may not completely disappear, but it will be much easier to remove it after cleaning in the dishwasher.

Step 4. Cleaning the washing machine filter (drain pump)

It is time to clean the drain filter. If you run the filter hard, the car will sooner or later refuse to drain the water, which will cause it to go up and may break through. Fortunately, cleaning the washing machine filter is very easy.

You will need:

  • A suitable container for height, for example, is suitable oven pan.
  • Towel or rag.
  • Flat head screwdriver or any hard flat tool (if necessary).

What should be done:

  1. Access the filter, which is usually located at the bottom of the housing.
  • In some models of washing machines, the filter is simply closed with a small panel. If this is your case, then you can open it, if necessary, prying with a flat screwdriver as shown in one of the following photos.
  • How to clean the washing machine drain filter
  1. So you see the closed filter. Before unscrewing the cover, lay a towel on the floor and place a container for collecting water under the sink (in our case, it seemed superfluous). Please note that can pour out to half a pound!
Release of water from the filter of the washing machine

In our case, the pallet turned out to be superfluous, since water flowed completely past it. Therefore, we released the liquid directly on the towel, periodically turning it over, while opening it and closing the lid.

  1. Unscrew the cover counterclockwise and remove from the hole all the accumulated debris and dirt: it can be coins, hair, wool, toothpicks and other trifles.
Cleaning the water drain filter

As you can see in the photo, in our case there was quite a bit of garbage in the filter.

  1. Wipe the hole, close it and replace the decorative panel.

Step 5. Cleaning the water inlet filter

In addition to the drain pump filter, each washing machine has another filter - this is a filler hose filter. Over time, this filter becomes clogged with rust and sand, then it fails - the machine refuses to wash it and reports that it is not possible to collect water.

  • If all previous procedures need to be carried out regularly, then the step of cleaning the filler hose filter can be performed less frequently, for example, once every six months.

You will need:

  • Old toothbrush;
  • Pliers or pliers.

What should be done:

  1. Shut off the cold water tap to the washing machine (a must!).
  2. Deploy the machine to access its backside. On the right in the upper part of the body you will see the inlet hose.
  3. Unscrew the hose nut counterclockwise. Look inside the hole, see a small filter with a mesh? Remove it with pliers or pliers.
  4. Clean the filter in water with a toothbrush;
  5. Insert the filter in place and screw the inlet hose tightly in a clockwise direction.
  6. Open the cold water access to the typewriter by turning the corresponding tap.

When you are done, you can wipe the back of the machine at the same time, and then unfold it and put it in its usual place.

Step 6. We clean the case and the door

Well, that's all, the inside of the machine is clean and ready for use! All you have to do is to bring in external beauty: wipe the control panel (especially protruding buttons), wash the door from the inside and outside, wipe the top and side panels.

And a bit about prevention

  • Use exactly as much powder, bleach and conditioner as you really need (see the instructions of the product manufacturers). After all, excess detergents do not enhance the result, but simply settle and accumulate inside the washing machine.
  • Always take out small items from your pockets so that they do not clog up the drain filter.
  • Try not to delay the launch of the machine, if you have already thrown dirty things into the drum. Well, clean things, take out immediately after washing and send to dry.
  • Always try to keep the machine open so that due to the high humidity there is no mold.

    The main breakdowns are due to the primary blocking of the hydraulic seal pile (S-curved drain hose at the outlet). In this hose and in the lower filter, hair accumulates over the years, and as a result, the drain pump cannot push them into the sewer. It can jam. The machine can leak. Therefore, it is necessary to try to clean this hose and drain filter at least 2 times a year. And even better, 1 time per month. At the same time, having unscrewed the bottom filter itself, it is necessary to try to clean the inner fan, the pump impeller, i. try to "proclaim" the "propeller". Clean from hair, dust and coins. Then it will not be necessary to call the "husband for an hour" and buy a new pump. Thus, the easiest way to increase the service life of art. cars is a regular cleaning of the drain hose, filter, pump impeller. If there is a universal HELPPIK supershell, then try to fool them (google how). He easily coils his hair and hair. Helppika Magnet sometimes finds fallen to the bottom of the keys and coins in the area of the filter flaps. And also (for the night) through the bottom filter we advise you to fall asleep the bacterial preparation Bioactivator-Chimney sweep. Bacteria eat dirt on the back streets of the entire system. And will not need chemicals-soda-vinegar.
